Balsamic Strawberry Sauce – Recipe Girl

balsamic strawberry sauce in a jar

This recipe for a warm Balsamic Strawberry Sauce makes a delicious topping for ice cream.

Balsamic Strawberry Sauce

Although we prefer this sauce served warm, it can be served cold as well. I love it served over ice cream, but it’s also terrific served over cheesecake, panna cotta or even as a filling for crepes. The black pepper added to the sauce makes it interesting. It adds another level of depth and complexity that is unexpected!

🛒 Ingredient Notes:

granulated white sugar

water

sliced strawberries (you can use fresh strawberries or frozen strawberries)

balsamic vinegar (any brand will do!)

freshly ground black pepper

✏️ How to make Balsamic Strawberry Sauce

*The full, printable recipe is at the end of this post.

Mix the sugar and water in a medium saucepan and cook over medium heat until sugar dissolves, stirring frequently. Stir in the strawberries, vinegar and ¼ teaspoon pepper.

Cook for 10 minutes longer or until the mixture is of a syrupy consistency, stirring occasionally.

➡️ Tips and Substitutions:

I prefer using ripe, juicy fresh strawberries for the best-tasting results!

You can choose to add in a little chopped fresh basil or mint to the sauce too!

Believe it or not, this sauce is also pretty yummy served with grilled chicken or pork too (as long as you’re okay with using a sweet sauce to serve with your meat).

✔️ Make Ahead Tips

If stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, balsamic strawberry sauce can typically last for about one week.

If you want to extend the shelf life, you can freeze balsamic strawberry sauce. Transfer it to a freezer-safe container or bag, leaving some space for expansion, and freeze it for up to 3 months. Thaw it overnight in the refrigerator before using, and stir well to recombine any separated liquids.

❤️ What I Love About This Recipe

I love that it’s a versatile sauce that can be used as a dessert sauce or as a topping for savory meats!

It’s not ho-hum chocolate sauce, it’s kind of a gourmet sauce!

I love that it’s a fun option for using up fresh strawberries.
