What is Matcha?
Matcha is made from finely ground Japanese tea leaves and has a distinct earthy smooth flavor. It has numerous benefits and is even higher in antioxidants than green tea.
Selecting the BEST Matcha
When selecting the best Matcha Powder, first look for one that is organic and free from pesticides. Also, ceremonial matcha will be better quality and harvested from the youngest tea leaves from the first harvest. It is intended to be mixed directly into hot water for use as a tea.
I really like the Kyoto Brand Ceremonial Matcha which has a smooth flavor and beautiful vibrant color.
Does the Iced Lavender Cream Oatmilk Matcha contain caffeine?
One thing to note is that Matcha does contain caffeine. It has more caffeine than green tea, but less than coffee. This makes it a great alternative for coffees, lattes, and cold brews. Especially if you’re looking to stay alert, but consume less caffeine. It is great for consuming in the evening when you want to perk up a little bit, but not be up all night.
Substitutions
Since this is an Iced Lavender Cream Oatmilk Matcha Starbucks copycat recipe, we use Oat Milk, but you could also use regular milk or even coconut milk.
The Lavender Cream is made with our fantastic Lavender Syrup Recipe and heavy cream. If you are Vegan, you can use an alternative like Califia Farms Dairy-Free Heavy Whipping Cream.
Lavender Syrup
Here is my vibrant Lavender Syrup recipe which I use for my Iced Lavender Cream Oatmilk Matcha Starbucks copycat recipe. You can also use this syrup for lattes, over pancakes, in baking, and so much more.
How to Make Oatmilk Matcha
First, sift the matcha powder into your glass so there are no solid chunks.
Next, add the oat milk and whisk with a milk frothing whisk or a matcha whisk. Make sure the matcha is completely dissolved.
Then add ice.
How to Make Lavender Cold Foam
To make the lavender cold foam first make our Lavender Syrup.
Then add the cream to a measuring cup with the vanilla, Lavender Syrup, and optional purple food coloring.
Finally, use a frothing whisk to blend the lavender cold foam until it thickens. Then pour on top of your iced matcha.
Natural Purple Food Coloring Alternatives
If you do not want to use purple food coloring but want a pretty purple hue, you can use purple yam powder or butterfly pea powder. To make butterfly pea powder turn purple, all you have to do is mix it with a small amount of acidity such as a small squeeze of lemon.
